Changan’s all-new electric model, the Qiyuan E07, officially rolled off the assembly line at the automaker’s factory in China. The E07 is a pure electric SUV and pickup truck blend and the first model of the automaker’s new NEV series – Qiyuan. Combining elements of a pickup truck and SUV coupe, the E07 has some things in common with the Tesla Cybertruck. The Changan Qiyuan is now open for preorders and is officially scheduled to launch later this year. The car is expected to have a 300,000 – 500,000 yuan ($41,200 – $68,700) price range.
Qiyuan is a new lineup under Changan focusing on NEVs (New Electric Vehicles). It comes with its unique design language and logo, and so far, the E07 is its first model. The E07 made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, and since then, the automaker has secured collaboration with the Transformers franchise. On the company’s website, we can see an image of Optimus Prime from the Transformers standing behind a Qiyuan E07. It remains to be seen whether the E07 will make an appearance in the upcoming Transformers movie.
The Changan Qiyuan E07 is quite large, with a wheelbase of 3120mm and a length, width, and height of 5045/1996/1665 mm, ideal for large families. All-wheel drive versions have a 2398 kg curb weight, while rear-wheel variants have a 2278 kg curb weight. Built on Changan’s SDA architecture, it comes with flexible trunk space, which can be adjusted into SUV form, coupe, or pickup form, depending on usage. The fastback shape, C-shaped LED light clusters, concealed door handles, and continuous taillights highlight its sporty design. Additionally, buyers can choose from any of 7 colors.
Inside the cabin, the tiltable 15.4-inch floating central control screen is prominent. Besides the two scroll wheels on the D-shaped steering wheel, the Qiyuan E07 has no other buttons. The center console has a wireless charging pad, two cupholders, and plenty of storage space. In place of a driver’s display, the model features an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) system. With nine airbags, zero-gravity seats, 256-color soft ambient lighting, and 18 stereo surround speakers, comfort is a top priority. The copilot’s entertainment screen is a thoughtful addition, perfect for keeping passengers entertained on longer journeys.
The Qiyuan E07 comes in two configurations to meet the needs of different users: rear- and all-wheel drive models. The single-motor rear-wheel drive models come in two variants, 165 kW and 252 kW, with a 201 km/h top speed. On the other hand, dual-motor AWD versions are good for 440 kW (188 for front and 252 for rear) and a combined 645 Nm peak torque. According to official data, the dual-motor version accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in about 4 seconds with a 210 km/h top speed. Users can choose between pure-electric and extended-range models with 551 km, 651 km, 701 km, and 1000 km range capabilities
Furthermore, the Changan Qiyuan E07 is equipped with 800V high-voltage fast charging technology, which can achieve a range of 365 km in 15 minutes, effectively easing users’ range anxiety. It comes equipped with a range of intelligent driving features, including five millimeter-wave radars, 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and two lidars, which support functions such as lane-keeping assist, lane centering, high-speed piloting, merging assist, automatic parking, and valet parking, providing users a safe and convenient driving experience.
As a new high-end brand of Changan Automobile, Changan Qiyuan E07 is set to build its reputation and brand awareness over time. However, with its competitive pricing of 300,000 yuan, it is already proving to be a strong contender against established rivals such as the Radar RD6 and BYD Tang EV.
