Chinese automaker Nio, has launched a new battery swap station on the west coast of Norway, bringing its total in Europe to 49. The new power station, launched on 15th July, is close to Norway’s second-largest city, Bergen. Norway now has 14 battery swap stations in total. It is important to know that Nio’s first house in Europe was opened in Oslo in 2021.
Nio also announced that its Scandinavian coastline Power Journey route is now open. The Scandinavian coastline power route, which is 1,227 kilometers long, starts from Stavanger and ends in the vibrant Danish capital, Copenhagen. It runs through Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, with eight battery swap stations along the way. Nio’s battery exchange stations are strategically located and operated by the manufacturer’s field service engineers. This is Nio’s second power route after the Canals and Castles route, which measures 1,323 kilometers and stretches from Rotterdam to Munich. Measuring 1,323 kilometer
Nio owners who live in a location where the car’s BaaS (Battery as a Service) is available can order a battery replacement through the NIO App (available for iOS and Android). This allows users to switch to a fully charged battery in just three minutes. Nio’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) model is another cornerstone of the company’s strategy. BaaS allows customers to buy a model without a battery and, at the same time, rent a battery adapted to their needs. This reduces the initial cost of ownership and provides flexibility in the use of batteries.
Earlier in June, the automaker unveiled its 4th-generation battery charging and swap stations. The new battery swap stations need only 2 minutes and 24 seconds to change batteries, representing a 22% speed upgrade. Moreover, 4th-generation swap stations can hold up to 23 batteries. For context, 2nd and 3rd generation swap stations had 13 and 21 battery storage capacities.
