Brazen Move: BYD Song Ultra EV Presells March 5th with Roof-Mounted LiDAR and God’s Eye

BYD Song Ultra EV

Pre-sales for the BYD Dynasty Network Song Ultra EV will launch at BYD’s 26th annual technology conference on March 5th. The BYD Song Ultra EV debuts the first-ever roof-mounted LiDAR sensor in the Song series and the ‘God’s Eye’ intelligent driving assistant, delivering urban and highway autopilot capabilities. The BYD Song Ultra EV pricing is estimated to start at 180,000 yuan (~$26,000), with an expected monthly production of 20,000 units.

Family Style Exterior

The BYD Song Ultra looks similar to the BYD Song Pro DM-i, adopting the latest family-style design with only a minor difference in the grille. It features a closed front grille paired with a through-type star-ring light strip, which widens the car’s visual width. At the rear, it utilizes a through-type taillight assembly and a sizable spoiler, among other elements, to enrich its visual layering. BYD’s new EV measures 4850mm in length, 1910mm in width, and 1670mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2840mm. As such, it is set to be the largest full battery-electric vehicle (BEV) in the Song series, surpassing the dimensions of the current size leaders, BYD Song L and BYD Song Plus.

Spacious and Modern Interior

BYD Song Ultra EV interior targets the younger demographic with its high-tech aesthetics. The interior features a floating central control screen, straight centre console lines, a built-in full LCD instrument cluster and a two-spoke multifunctional steering wheel. The BEV offers dual wireless phone charging pads and dual cup holders. It also includes a multimedia control knob and geometric patterns on the trim panel in front of the passenger seat to enhance ambience. The 2840mm wheelbase allows the front and rear seats to connect and form a bed mode, catering to different usage scenarios such as long road trips.

Solid Range Powertrain, Powerful Performance

BYD Song Ultra

According to test reports, the new Song model will feature  a single electric motor with a maximum power of 270 kW and a top speed of 210 km/h, which is the current highest in the Song series. On the efficiency front, BYD Song Ultra EV’s range is equally impressive, offering CLTC pre-electric ranges of 620 km and 710 km for its 75.62 kWh and 82.73 kWh battery packs, respectively.

The higher battery pack is a substantial upgrade from previous models, taking the title from the 2025 BYD Song L EV, which offered up to 662 km, followed by the BYD Song Plus EV, which offered up to 605 km. These figures are based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle and may provide higher numbers than the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light-Duty Vehicle Test Procedure) or EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) standards.

Editorial Take

BYD Song Ultra EV 2026 shows BYD’s strategy to redefine the mainstream EV market. BYD brings technology once limited to premium vehicles, like LiDAR and the God’s Eye driver assistance system, to a mass-market family SUV. This move raises consumer expectations: in 2026, a good car will mean not only space and range, but also intelligence and advanced autonomy.
