Images have emerged from local Chinese media showing the interior spy shots of Leapmotor’s A12. The new car from Leapmotor is positioned as a compact SUV. The new A12 is expected to be equipped with Lidar and high-end intelligent driving functions. The A12 is smaller than the models from the current C Series and will be the first model of Leapmotor’s A Series.
Earlier in April, Autohome reported spy shots of the SUV in a Leapmotor parking lot. It bore a lot of similarities to the Leap C10 and comes with hidden door handles. The A12 is expected to start at around 99,800 yuan ($13,800) and should be available in pure EV and REV versions, with up to a 150 km driving range.
From the recently obtained spy shots, the interior design of the new car is very similar to that of the Leapmotor C10, complete with a large central screen, a double-spoke steering wheel, and an LCD instrument panel in front of the driver. In addition to these, the central armrest seems to be merged with a wireless charging panel.
In October 2023, Stellantis acquired 20% of Leapmotor. This deal resulted in the formation of a JV between both automakers known as Leapmotor International, with a deal for Leapotor to build its cars outside China. So far, this union has produced the Leapmotor C10. Another car, the Leapmotor T03, is currently in production in Poland. If that’s anything to go by, then the A12 is also set to be a global car. Chinese media report that the A12 might be launched at the Guangzhou Auto Show in late 2024.
Zhu Jiangming, founder of Leapmotor, recently stated that the automaker would have four series of products by 2026. At the moment, the bulk of Leapmotor’s products fall into the C series, aimed at customers looking for 150,000 yuan ($20,650 ) cars in China. The A series will target the 100,000 yuan ($13,800) market. Zhu also stated that Leapmotor will try to replicate BYD’s cost control effectiveness.
