NIO, formerly known as NextEV, is a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer founded in 2014 by William Li. The company is headquartered in Shanghai, China, and has offices in San Jose, Munich, London, and Hong Kong. Since its inception, NIO has been committed to creating a new user experience for electric vehicles by combining advanced technologies, innovative designs, and exceptional performance.

In November 2016, NIO unveiled its first product, the EP9. It is an all-electric, two-seat sports car with a top speed of 313 km/h and a range of 427 km on a single charge. The EP9 set a new lap record for electric vehicles at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in May 2017, completing the 20.8 km circuit in just 6 minutes and 45.90 seconds. The EP9 features a carbon fiber chassis, four high-performance electric motors, and an advanced battery system that delivers over 1,000 kW of power.

In December 2017, NIO launched its first production car, the ES8, a seven-seater electric SUV with a range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The ES8 is designed to compete with Tesla’s Model X and other luxury SUVs. The ES8 features a lightweight aluminum alloy body, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and an advanced battery management system that delivers superior performance and efficiency. The ES8 is also equipped with NIO Pilot, a Level 2 autonomous driving system that provides advanced driver assistance features.

In March 2019, NIO launched the ES6, a smaller, five-seater electric SUV. The ES6 is designed to be more affordable than the ES8 and is targeted at a broader consumer base. The ES6 features a similar design to the ES8 but is smaller in size and has a shorter range of up to 510 km on a single charge. Like the ES8, the ES6 is equipped with NIO Pilot and other advanced technologies.

In December 2019, NIO introduced the EC6, a coupe-like version of the ES6 with a sloping roofline and sportier styling. The EC6 features a range of up to 615 km on a single charge and is equipped with NIO Pilot and other advanced technologies. The EC6 is designed to appeal to customers who prefer a more stylish and sporty SUV.

In addition to its electric vehicles, NIO has also been investing heavily in autonomous driving technology. In 2018, the company launched NIO Pilot, a Level 2 autonomous driving system that uses cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to provide advanced driver assistance features. In 2020, NIO introduced its first autonomous driving system, NIO Autonomous Driving, which is capable of Level 4 autonomous driving in certain situations. NIO Autonomous Driving is currently being tested on public roads in China and is expected to be available to customers in the near future.

As of early 2021, NIO was one of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers in China, with a market share of around 8%. The company had delivered over 100,000 electric vehicles to customers in China and was expanding rapidly, with plans to enter new markets in Europe and North America in the coming years. NIO’s commitment to innovation and technology has made it a formidable competitor in the global electric vehicle market.
